The consumer prefers packaged product to downloads…
It’s official - a survey conducted recently asking the question regarding what format for HD media is preferable and the positive answer was Blu-Ray.
With so much discussion about downloads for music, film, games and even TV shows, has anybody actually stopped to consider what the public actually want rather than being told this is what is to be expected?
Long before the internet, people bought music on vinyl, then tape, then CD and movies became available on tape, then DVD and now HD Blu-Ray. During these times the same people could record music from the radio, record movies or TV shows from broadcast but the fact remained that we all still purchased original copies of our chosen media to keep.
This remains today and it still covers all media - music, movies and software. If we like something we prefer to buy the real deal and not just keep a copy. CDs are still being bought in large volumes, DVDs even larger volumes and now Blu-Ray is rapidly growing.
So the conclusion? Downloads are not the desired method for buying the products we like. Owning an actual physical copy remains the choice.
