REAL Music fans want REAL music product
Everywhere you read in the press the state of the music industry seems to be doomed and that MP3’s and WMA files etc etc etc are so “wonderful”. But do REAL music fans only want a file of their favourite artists latest release? Do they really only want a flash pen in their pockets full of their lifes musical memories and collections?
And what about the musicians themselves. Do we forget the fact that music they are creating is their life and soul - it reflects far more than just something to drive to or dance to etc. The REAL musicians are producing their art for what - so that some bright spark can simply load these flash pens full and call it a product the musicians would be proud to offer their fans? Would we expect an artist to lovingly create an original oil painting only for another to take a digital image of it and distribute that on flash pens? No - we would still want to hang the painting to marvel at its beauty - not take a pen out of your pocket and look at it on a 3″ LCD screen whenever you felt like it!
Why therefore can we not start treating the REAL musicians with the same respect instead of mocking their art. There is more to life than simply selling as much as possible in whatever way is easiest - sometimes quality counts for a lot more. It is about time this is allowed to be realized truely. Yes there is a market for downloaded music dumped onto flash pens and ipods but I bet this music does not pass the test of time - how many people can remember what the number one selling song was a year ago today and more to the point how many people are still actually listening to it regularly! REAL music is remembered from years ago and still being played regularly today - but NOT as one-off songs! As complete albums - the whole story of the artist at that particular time.
The point therefore is this - The CD or the DVD is NOT DEAD! It is only the people marketing these flash pens and other devices that are telling us otherwise! REAL musicians want to give their REAL music fans a REAL product to be proud of. One that passes the test of time. There is room still for all formats - maybe it’s just time to allow certain genres of music to be available as download only making room for the others to shine or maybe it’s just time to fight back and let marketing companies realise we want to buy what WE want and not what THEY tell us we should!
