Audio CD Replication

CD Replication or CD Duplicating

To most people, the words are interchangeable.

In the audio CD business, however, there’s a huge difference between CD replication and CD duplication. It’s the difference between 100% reliability and what amounts to a roll of the dice.

Anybody Can Duplicate CD

It takes no special equipment or expertise to duplicate, or “burn” a CD. Anyone with a laptop computer and a 20 cent disc can do it, and chances are that your 10-year-old knows more about CD duplication than you do.

Things get tricky, though, when you play that duplicated disc in a moving vehicle, or you take it over to Mom’s house and insert it into her circa-1980s CD changer. The disc may start skipping, and sometimes it may not operate at all. That may be an acceptable risk for a homemade production, but what if you’re a professional musician? What if you’ve just sunk your life’s savings into the album you’re about to release?

Unlike a disc duplicate, a replicated CD works each time, every time.

How CDs Are Replicated

CD replication begins in a dust, pollen, and smoke-free room, where we create a glass master. The ultra-clean environment is crucial, because any particle can impair the quality of the master and affect playability. We stamp every production disc from a master impression of the glass master CD. This guarantees that every replicated disc is identical to the original, and will play in any device designed to handle a CD.

Note: If your quote from one of our competitors does not itemize the cost of glass mastering, chances are that the quote is for CD duplication, and NOT replication!
