News this week sees lawsuits filed against Baidu.com (the leading search engine of China) for freely distributing music files. While it is right to bring these lawsuits against such action, can we really prevent such activities happening - especially in China? When the total legitimate music sales from China (bearing in mind how large the population) accounts for less than 1% of the global market are we surprised about the extent of the piracy there?
Here in the USA if you pirate music (or any media for that matter) you do so with the risk of severe penalty when caught. It just seems a little less concern to other authorities which is always worrying.
