Digital Disc Duplication USA http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us Mon, 23 May 2011 12:42:20 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.7.1 en hourly 1 DVD CD duplication Services & its Advantages http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/dvd-cd-duplication-services-its-advantages-2/ http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/dvd-cd-duplication-services-its-advantages-2/#comments Thu, 12 May 2011 08:40:46 +0000 Karl Adams http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/dvd-cd-duplication-services-its-advantages-2/ DVD Duplication is quite literally burning blank DVD-R media. Companies providing this service have banks of DVD writers linked to enable multiple copies to be burned at the same time at high speeds. This method of DVD copying is very fast which will quite often mean it is possible to get your required quantity completed within 48 hours or less. Printing onto the DVD surface is usually inkjet or digital which again provides a fast turnaround at reasonable quality and likewise any sleeve printing is usually digital, ideal for the lower print run quantities.

Professionally manufactured DVDs that you would expect to buy retail are replicated. This method is far more cost effective for larger volume but also provides genuine guaranteed compatibility for playback across all drives. DVD duplication services can never provide this compatibility guarantee due to a number of possible scenarios. For example, it is not uncommon for a particular DVD drive to simply not read a particular brand of DVD R media. Older drives were not able to read +R as that media was not around initially and therefore drives were not made with that compatibility. Likewise with RW media as this media came later than initial DVD drives.

It is because of these compatibility variances that burned DVDs are not considered as retail quality however this method of DVD duplication still proves useful for many ways. As mentioned, the turnaround times are often very fast where replication due to the requirements of various stages will take considerably longer. If you therefore have an urgent deadline to meet, chances are you will need to have your DVDs duplicated in order to meet your timeline.

It is also not cost effective for replication if low volume is required, say less than five hundred copies. There is far more involved in set up which of course takes time and costs need to be met but because burning DVDs has no initial set up time, there are no initial costs to be met other than the blank media and the time and cost to run. As an average, it calculates lower per disc cost to duplicate up to around three hundred copies before replication of five hundred actually becomes more favourable. It is the same for the printing of sleeves which for replication would be printed litho. This method produces the best results but again due to the process is not cost effective for low volume. Digital print is ideal for lower quantities and used frequently to provide the packaging of burned media.

DVD CD duplication Services & its Advantages http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/dvd-cd-duplication-services-its-advantages/ http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/dvd-cd-duplication-services-its-advantages/#comments Thu, 12 May 2011 08:38:57 +0000 Karl Adams http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/dvd-cd-duplication-services-its-advantages/ DVD CD duplication services are widely available and can provide the simple solution to get product you need in the fastest time. If you have a trade show approaching in the next few days and need your corporate presentation available for distribution, or in a band and have managed to get a meeting with a potentially influential PR representative then the fastest way to get a good looking CD or DVD is with DVD CD duplication.

With many packaging options available and high quality digital printing for sleeves it is possible to achieve the closest result to the actual shop quality possible. There are various printing methods for the discs themselves ranging from inkjet to screen or litho. Most companies will offer inkjet or thermal printing for the discs but if you can find one offering screen or litho print this would provide the ultimate quality as these are the same methods used for professionally replicated discs.

When walking around trade exhibitions there are inevitably hundreds of brochures and leaflets handed out from each company. By the time you leave you have bags full of material to read through which not only is monotonous in itself but the sheer weight of them all makes it a drag carrying them about for the day. Consider how much easier it would be for your potential client to have your brochure or presentation handed to them on a lightweight easy to carry CD or DVD rather than yet another heavy printed book? They would be grateful to start without have the extra baggage and therefore more likely to pay attention to it when they return to office!

The CD or DVD option also provides additional opportunities to show video clips (which of course cannot be printed) and direct links at a click to your website promoting potential instant sale rather than the need to manually find your site or even call. With a link from the CD or DVD direct to your latest product page, the disc will also not become obsolete whereas any printed brochure will only have products and services available at time of print and short of printing supplements, there will be no easy way to promote latest information.

When you also consider costs involved in brochure printing and then compare with DVD CD duplication, it is very likely a big saving can be made whilst providing far greater scope.

Brief Introduction to CD Manufacturing http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/brief-introduction-to-cd-manufacturing/ http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/brief-introduction-to-cd-manufacturing/#comments Thu, 12 May 2011 08:37:11 +0000 Karl Adams http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/brief-introduction-to-cd-manufacturing/ CD Manufacturing plants all around the world have seen a large fall in demand for their services due to ever improving internet speeds and downloading capabilities. Probably the main industry affected is the music industry which of course has always demanded high volume of CD production. Prior to the ability to download music, pretty much all released was on CD whether it be an album or just a single. Now with the download market place, most singles are downloaded hence reducing the requirement of the physical format.

Many people seem to think this is the end of CD manufacturing requirements altogether but when you look at statistics and all factors involved it is simply the reduced demand needing to meet the actual capacity available. Using the music industry alone as a model, considering how many singles are released each month and prior to download the volume of units pressed and sold of all singles, the volume is quite substantial so when this requirement is removed it is inevitable there becomes a big excess in capacity over demand. Albums are also available as download however the demand for the physical CD is still far greater than the download probably due to consumers feeling better value for money and also to get more than just the music itself.

As a direct result of this fall in demand, many factories around the world have closed which naturally reduces the available capacity towards to actual demand. With album sales still holding strong and no apparent demand for high definition audio to replace the standard audio CD, there is no reason to believe the physical CD is going to disappear altogether anytime in the near future. There have been attempts to offer alternatives such as flash drives but again the consumer chooses the CD.

It is wrong to assume people care less about the quality of products and music they buy now. Of course there are certain genres of music that is aimed at younger people who probably aren’t so concerned but the majority of album sales are by people who want the best available. When you consider it is simple to rip the audio from the CD to your portable player anyway it makes sense to work from the best quality and also retain the best version rather than download an inferior copy due to compression in the first place. Why not have the best of both options rather than pay the same for the lower quality? Artists would not go to such great lengths to be sure of the best recording, best mix and best master if they did not think it would benefit so as long as there is the demand for the best available quality there will be a demand for CD manufacturing.

CD Duplicating Services & its Benefits http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/cd-duplicating-services-its-benefits/ http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/cd-duplicating-services-its-benefits/#comments Thu, 12 May 2011 08:34:49 +0000 Karl Adams http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/cd-duplicating-services-its-benefits/ CD Duplicating is quite literally burning of blank CD-R media in exactly the same way you would burn a CD on your home computer. The main difference is there are racks of CD writers linked together enabling multiple copies to be burned simultaneously at high speed. There are many companies providing this mass CD duplicating service which sure beats doing them one at a time yourself.

By using a professional company for this work it also opens up far more printing and packaging options than you could do for yourself. Most CD writing software will have a simple sleeve and inlay design program with it but this will be limited to the capabilities and also when you print them on your inkjet the quality will not be too great. Printing on the disc may well be restricted too – either needing to use an adhesive label or simple black text only. While this combination may be more than good enough for your own library it would certainly not present very well as a demonstration CD or corporate presentation.

It is very important to understand that duplicated CD media cannot be classed as genuine retail quality product. The main reason for this is compatibility issues that could arise. When you duplicate (or burn) a CD, it is never 100% certain this CD will playback in any CD player or ROM drive. With many possible factors and combinations that could cause playback problems, it is impossible to tell which CD would have problems in which players or drives. For this reason all retail CDs have been professionally replicated. This process involves creating a glass master from which a stamper is grown in order to press, or replicate every CD from the same source. The pressed CD is then coated and printed for protection producing as near perfect CD as possible for every copy. This results in all CD players and drives being able to read all CDs.

Because the process of replication is far more complex, it is not cost effective to operate for low volumes of CD. It also takes longer to complete and therefore not ideal for producing CDs needed without delay. This is where CD duplicating comes into its own. With the right set up, it is possible to produce hundreds of discs, all printed and packed in a relatively short time. It is not uncommon to see companies offering twenty four hour turnarounds for duplication which would simply not be easily achieved with replication. Quality should still be of a high standard although the finished CDs could not end up in the shops for reasons already mentioned. Many bands and artists use duplication for selling at gigs or for sending as promos and corporations will produce presentations and electronic brochures for trade shows and with the time required to complete, advance planning is not quite so essential.

CD Replication Services & its Advantages http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/cd-replication-services-its-advantages/ http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/cd-replication-services-its-advantages/#comments Thu, 12 May 2011 08:31:57 +0000 Karl Adams http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/cd-replication-services-its-advantages/ CD replication started in the early 1980’s although at first it did not prove very effective. Original Audio CDs and CD players were only 8-bit technology and this proved very quickly not to be sufficient. Many recordings where there were low levels in the music found with only 8-bit digital re-production, “noise” was being added because the digital calculation of the analogue wave was not accurate enough.

Very quickly the re-launch of CD occurred although this time with 16-bit technology and without further technical problems, although consumers were reluctant at first to trust it, the CD soon took off in popularity and became the standard platform for music.

Because the CD was purely digital, it quickly became used for DATA and with much larger capacity than previously used floppy disks, CD drives were quickly replacing floppy drives for computers and software provided another requirement for CD replication. With this and the quick demise of cassettes and vinyl for audio, demand and capacity required was higher than any initial expectations.

Digital Audio technology enabled recordings at 20-bit and 24-bit therefore providing a more accurate interpretation of the original analogue however the capacity of the CD simply could not handle the file sizes. This all changed when DVD duplication was launched and many thought the audio CD would be replaced with DVD-Audio because of the superior quality. The consumer however was more than satisfied with the standard audio CD quality, especially for pop music etc and therefore the high definition audio only became popular for niche markets such as classical recordings.

As technology progresses, more formats become available and with compression to make files smaller, MP3 audio quickly became an instant way to get new music via downloading. The quality is not as good as the original CD because the data is compressed however again for the general pop market, consumers have not been deterred and when only 1 track is required it proves far more cost effective than buying a physical CD. For this reason CD singles have almost phased out therefore CD replication demand has naturally lowered but the albums are still preferred to be bought on CD for value and quality.

Brief Introduction & Benefits of CD Pressing http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/brief-introduction-benefits-of-cd-pressing/ http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/brief-introduction-benefits-of-cd-pressing/#comments Thu, 12 May 2011 08:29:01 +0000 Karl Adams http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/brief-introduction-benefits-of-cd-pressing/ CD Pressing relates to professionally manufactured CDs you would expect to buy from retail stores etc. The discs are literally pressed, or stamped rather than the data simply burned as you would on your CD writer. From original master, an image is taken and etched onto glass via laser to create a glass master. From this a stamper is taken which is used to press the discs.

Because each CD pressing is from the same source all are identical unlike CDs that are burned (CD-Rs). With various disc errors that occur for each burn onto each CD-R there can never be 100% assurance that all will read in every drive but the pressed CD provides 100% compatibility. It is for this reason a duplicated CD-R can never be considered as a genuine retail quality product.

The layer containing the data on a pressed CD is directly beneath the printed surface (top) of the disc rather than the underside of the CD (silver side). This also acts as a protection against damage whereas the burned CD-R carries the data on the underside of the actual CD and therefore more open and unprotected. A light scratch on a CD-R is more likely to render the disc un-readable but the pressed CD will be far more tolerant. Unfortunately they are not indestructible as was portrayed when CDs first came about however with good care taken there is no reason for them not to last a lifetime. The number of times played will not cause them to wear, unlike the vinyl or cassettes previously and the reproduction quality will never falter.

For audio CDs, there are some that believe a pressed CD actually sounds better than the same program played from a burned CD-R. This technically is not possible because the actual audio being digital will be identical. Purity of playback however could differ due to errors on the discs. Much in the same way as turntables had tracking to make sure the stylus followed the “grooves”, each CD drive has error correct capability. Audio players are not so tolerant as ROM drives generally and therefore a burned CD-R which is likely to have more errors than a pressed CD would not provide the optimum read.

CD pressing is very different to CD burning or duplicating and it is important to remember it is the only way to produce genuine retail quality product for sale.

Brief Introduction to DVD Replication http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/brief-introduction-to-dvd-replication/ http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/brief-introduction-to-dvd-replication/#comments Thu, 14 Apr 2011 09:53:29 +0000 Karl Adams http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/brief-introduction-to-dvd-replication/ DVD replication is the only method in order to achieve a true retail DVD product. While duplication, or commonly referred to as “burning”, of blank media is often convenient for low volume or fast turnaround, shops or internet retailers would only ever stock genuine manufactured product – in other words those that have been produced via the DVD replication method.

In order to provide quantities that are 100% identical, DVD replication requires a glass master which is created from the original master and a stamper is grown. The discs are then all pressed from this stamper resulting in every copy being an exact replicate. Prior to the glass mastering, the original master is checked for errors via software such as Eclipse. Should errors outside of the tolerance level be present, glass mastering cannot proceed and therefore new original master would be required. Such checks are vital to be sure the DVD replication process can only provide product that will guarantee to play in all players.

Unlike DVD replication, any discs that are burnt will be different to each other and errors will be duplicated also. Therefore should an original have many errors that are undetected, duplicates are likely to have at least the same number of errors which is likely to result in playback problems for some players. Because discs produced via DVD replication are all identical and initially error checked, playability problems would not be an issue.

Retail outlets do not want excessive volume of returned faulty products and therefore it is common knowledge that duplicated discs would cause such problems. This is probably the main reason stores would only stock product made via DVD replication however there can also be quality concerns with the final appearance.

Most discs that are burnt will have a blue/purple base colour whereas professionally produced discs from DVD replication are silver. The surface print is either screen or litho printed rather than inkjet or thermal printed as is common for duplication resulting in sub standard quality. Sleeves and inserts for duplicated discs are also printed as either inkjet or digitally rather than the professional litho print that comes as standard with DVD replication.

In conclusion it is essential to be aware of problems with burnt media – especially if you are planning a retail product. Your DVD can only have a chance to reach retail outlets if they have been produced via DVD replication.

The DVD Manufacturing Process http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/the-dvd-manufacturing-process/ http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/the-dvd-manufacturing-process/#comments Thu, 14 Apr 2011 09:51:35 +0000 Karl Adams http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/the-dvd-manufacturing-process/ DVD Manufacturing could refer to either duplication or replication however there are major differences. A genuine retail DVD is replicated rather than duplicated but unfortunately not all DVD manufacturing companies will make you aware of this. Most of the time, such companies can only provide duplication and would therefore not advise of the alternative.

DVD manufacturing companies that can only duplicate are simply burning blank media. OK so they can print on the disc and even print the packaging so it looks the same as any DVD however you would not be able to stock this in high street shops or internet outlets.

Replication provided by DVD manufacturing companies is providing genuine retail quality product. It is true that quality can vary from one company to another so cheapest is not always the wisest choice. At the end of the day, you want to sell your DVD and the first impression is the quality of its looks.

Some companies offering DVD manufacturing will also offer the complete service including authoring and graphic design for your final packaging. This can often save on costs rather than contracting three different companies to complete the project and also it is usually quicker. The actual DVD manufacturing is the simplest part of the project whereas the authoring can make a huge difference to the professionalism of the product and of course the graphic design for the packaging can make it stand out. DVD manufacturing is in itself basically the mass production of a single master.

Should any DVD manufacturing facility only be able to offer the duplication of a DVD-R supplied along with the printing of a j-peg for example, while they are likely to be providing cheap prices it is also likely you will end up with cheap result and possible playback problems. The authoring can be complex subject to your needs and just because what you create plays fine on your system, doesn’t always mean it is OK for any system. Before going for DVD manufacturing, the more tests that can be carried out and the better checks by your chosen DVD manufacturing company the better to be sure of avoiding problems.

The Basics of CD Duplication Services USA http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/the-basics-of-cd-duplication-services-usa/ http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/the-basics-of-cd-duplication-services-usa/#comments Thu, 14 Apr 2011 09:49:09 +0000 Karl Adams http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/the-basics-of-cd-duplication-services-usa/ CD Duplication services are available from many companies but it is always best to be sure you are getting exactly the product you need. There are two ways to produce CDs in volume but the different methods provide very different results and quality.

Technically CD duplication services refer to burnt blank media ie duplicated CD-Rs. While this method is ideal for low volume or quick turnaround, it does not provide a legitimate retail quality product that you would find on a high street or internet shop. For the professional retail product you would need CD replication. Many bands or labels for example use CD duplication services in order to provide low volume of demo CDs.

The method of printing used for CD duplication services can also vary from one company to another which of course can determine the final quality in appearance. Some will inkjet print the inserts and even the disc itself while others will use digital print. There are still those that provide the printed surface of the CD as an adhesive label which is not ideal for many reasons. Replicated CDs are either screen or litho printed and the inserts are all litho printed resulting in the optimum final quality throughout so if you are needing the true professional final product it is best to be sure the company offering CD duplication services would actually provide replication.

There are also possible playback problems with burnt media provided from companies offering CD duplication services. Not all CD drives will read every brand of CD-R or maybe if the media is written at too high a speed it can cause errors. Replication causes no such problem because each disc is pressed from a stamper created via glass mastering and therefore every disc will be identical. Again it is wise to check if the company offering CD duplication services are only providing burnt media or if they can replicate.

In conclusion, replicated CDs can only be the professional retail quality product and burnt blank media can never be classed as this. They are ideal for demos and maybe even a few to sell at gigs etc but shops would not stock them. Be sure the company you contact for CD duplication services are up front about the final product they can provide to be sure it meets your needs.

CD Duplication is the term to provide blank media burning http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/cd-duplication-is-the-term-to-provide-blank-media-burning/ http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/cd-duplication-is-the-term-to-provide-blank-media-burning/#comments Thu, 14 Apr 2011 09:41:25 +0000 Karl Adams http://www.digitaldiscduplication.us/cd-duplication-is-the-term-to-provide-blank-media-burning/ CD Duplication is the term to provide blank media burning, or CD copying. In the same way you would write (burn) a CD on your own computer, blank discs have the data burnt to them. Companies providing CD duplication of course can burn multiple copies at a time using banks of CD writers linked. Printing onto the surface of the CD is also possible using a variety of methods such as thermal printing, inkjet or digital and like wise most companies offering CD duplication can print the books, inlays or card packaging digitally for example.

It is not always known however that CD duplication does not provide a true shop ready product or in fact that for larger volume of 500 units plus, CD duplication is often more expensive. Only replication can provide the genuine retail product and although it is common for a minimum press of 500 or in some cases 1000, the price per CD is far lower.

That said though, many bands, labels or even companies need a low volume of CDs copied for demos or trade shows and quite often at short notice. For this, CD duplication is ideal and can still provide an attractive looking product. Or if you need a larger volume of CDs but a small number of them quickly, the bulk of them could be replicated while you use CD duplication for the immediately required quantity.

It is worth pointing out that only replicated CDs can provide 100% compatibility because they are all pressed from the same stamper whereas CD duplication burns the data onto existing blank media and hence every burn can be different – all discs have errors on them and while they would not affect the actual data, they could affect the playability on some drives. There is no way to determine whether a CD that has been made via CD duplication will cause problems on a particular drive. If you need to be 100% certain that all CDs will play without any problem, you would need to go for replication rather than CD duplication.
