ECD Authoring
What Is Enhanced CD (ECD)?
ECD is an audio CD “enhanced” with CD-ROM data: video, photos, hyperlinks, and so on.
Most audio CDs contain less than 60 minutes of music, but have up to 80 minutes of available space. ECD uses the remaining space for data. A standard CD changer plays the ECD like a standard music disc, but a computer’s CD-ROM drive launches the multimedia content.
Enhanced CD resolves some of the problems associated with mixed-mode CDs, which have both audio and data tracks and can damage speakers when CD players fail to read data, producing loud static. With an ECD, data and audio tracks are written in separate sessions, so that data remains invisible to an audio CD player.
For the same manufacturing price as a conventional music CD, ECD offers a convenient way to promote your band with music and multimedia. You can give fans something extra in your next album release – video clips, artist profiles, lyrics, interviews, posters, and games – or include complete press kits for reviewers!
At Digital Disc Duplication, we’ll produce ECDs from your compiled masters and write them to your specifications. Or send us your audio master and the separate video and data files, and let us build your enhanced CD from scratch.
