CD Replication Services & its Advantages

CD replication started in the early 1980’s although at first it did not prove very effective. Original Audio CDs and CD players were only 8-bit technology and this proved very quickly not to be sufficient. Many recordings where there were low levels in the music found with only 8-bit digital re-production, “noise” was being added because the digital calculation of the analogue wave was not accurate enough.

Very quickly the re-launch of CD occurred although this time with 16-bit technology and without further technical problems, although consumers were reluctant at first to trust it, the CD soon took off in popularity and became the standard platform for music.

Because the CD was purely digital, it quickly became used for DATA and with much larger capacity than previously used floppy disks, CD drives were quickly replacing floppy drives for computers and software provided another requirement for CD replication. With this and the quick demise of cassettes and vinyl for audio, demand and capacity required was higher than any initial expectations.

Digital Audio technology enabled recordings at 20-bit and 24-bit therefore providing a more accurate interpretation of the original analogue however the capacity of the CD simply could not handle the file sizes. This all changed when DVD duplication was launched and many thought the audio CD would be replaced with DVD-Audio because of the superior quality. The consumer however was more than satisfied with the standard audio CD quality, especially for pop music etc and therefore the high definition audio only became popular for niche markets such as classical recordings.

As technology progresses, more formats become available and with compression to make files smaller, MP3 audio quickly became an instant way to get new music via downloading. The quality is not as good as the original CD because the data is compressed however again for the general pop market, consumers have not been deterred and when only 1 track is required it proves far more cost effective than buying a physical CD. For this reason CD singles have almost phased out therefore CD replication demand has naturally lowered but the albums are still preferred to be bought on CD for value and quality.
